Headlands Primary School | Physical Education Narrative
At Headlands, we believe PE should be experienced in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where every pupil can thrive. Our aim is to help all children develop a love of sport and physical activity that stays with them for life. Through PE, pupils build the fundamental movement skills they need to take part in a wide range of activities, from invasion games to dance and gymnastics.

We want every child at Headlands to:
-
Be active every day and enjoy taking part in physical activity.

Implementation
We deliver our PE curriculum using GetSet4PE, a high-quality, inclusive programme that ensures consistency and progression from Early Years through to Year 6.
GetSet4PE helps teachers deliver engaging and enjoyable lessons that meet the needs of every child. The scheme supports pupils’ physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, helping them grow as well-rounded, confident individuals.
Why we love GetSet4PE:
-
It’s fully aligned with the National Curriculum.
-
It offers a broad range of sports and activities to keep pupils motivated.
-
Lessons are inclusive, adaptable and accessible for all abilities.
-
It encourages teamwork, resilience and positive sporting attitudes.
-
It helps teachers track progress and celebrate success.
In Year 5 (in some cases in year 6), pupils take part in structured swimming lessons, aiming to swim 25 metres confidently and leave primary school water-confident and safe.
Throughout the year, pupils also have the chance to represent the school in competitions and festivals within the local area. These events promote teamwork, leadership and a sense of pride, while our focus on achieving a personal best means every child can experience success.
The curriculum overview clearly sets out the units of physical activity covered across the school year, ensuring that the requirements of the National Curriculum are fully met. Sports tend to be taught during their season and have a direct link to competitive opportunities.
