About Woodlands Specialist Provision

WOODLANDS logo 1

Woodlands is a 50 place specialist provision for children with communication and interaction difficulties, including Autism.  Children need to have an Education, Health and Care Plan to access our provision.  We take children from Reception to Year 6.

Our Classes

There are 5 classes in Woodlands and a maximum of 10 children in each class.

Rabbits Class - These are our youngest children and are in Reception and Year 1

Hedgehogs Class - These children are in Year 2

Squirrels Class - These children are in Years 3 and 4

Badgers Class - These children are in Years 4, 5 and 6

Foxes Class - These children are in Years 5 and 6

The Nest

This is our multi-purpose room.  We use this room for the children as an extra space where they can do arts, crafts, cooking and a variety of activities.  The children also use this room for PE and to eat their lunch.

The Curriculum

In Woodlands we follow both the EYFS Curriculum and the National Curriculum. Alongside this we also have a focus on the children developing those important skills for life too.  Each term we have a topic across the unit and we link our learning to this.  Three times a year we have Woodlands Wonderful Wednesdays where we invite parents and carers to come in and share the children's learning and join in activities linked to our topic.

TEACCH Approach

We use this structured approach which is a framework to support the achievement of children's educational and therapeutic goals. The framework includes:-

  • Physical organisation
  • Individualised schedules
  • Work (Activity) systems
  • Visual structure of materials in tasks and activities

Coffee Mornings

We hold these 3 times a year where we invite parents and carers in and raise money to take the children on extra trips.  One trip we raise money for each year is our trip to Milton Keynes.  This is one of our favourites.  The children do some Christmas shopping and buy a present for a family member.  We have lunch out and then end the day with a visit to Father Christmas.

Out and About

We have a school mini bus and use this regularly to take the children out to a variety of places for example going to the supermarket to buy food for our snacks.
